- Is athlete attending summer overnight camp or expected to be away for a material (longer than a week) part of the spring/summer, if yes, provide exact dates
Players will be selected on the basis of:
• attitude and coachability; • level of commitment to attend practices, games and tournaments to ensure consistency of play and development as a team; and • athleticism and skill
No previous Rep or Select level baseball experience is required. All players will receive equal consideration.
Practices – The team will commence weekly practices indoors starting in early January through to April. Outdoor practices will commence in late April or early May (weather dependent). The team will be practicing on a weekend morning in the spring (May – June). There will also be a practice on Sunday evenings in May until the Select season starts at the end of May. The summer practice schedule (July – August) will not be known until the spring (dependent on permits, field availability) but the expectation based on previous years will see the spring weekend practice moved to 2 weekday evening practices during the summer.
Games – The team will participate in the Toronto Baseball Association. The regular season will consist of approximately 10 games starting in late May and running to mid-August. Home games will take place on Sunday evenings. Away games will be at various locations in the eastern portion of the city. The Head Coach may also occasionally schedule exhibition games or make-up games for rain-outs at times. There are no games scheduled on the Canada Day or Civic long weekends.
Tournaments – The team expects to participate in 2-3 tournaments, with 2 in May/June and 1 in early August.
Summer Break - The team will take a 2-3 week break at the beginning of July, this is dependent on the convenor being able to grant us our Black Out request. Players' attendance at overnight camp and family vacations should be scheduled around this period.
An important aspect of the Select program is commitment to the team and we expect those players chosen to play will honour this commitment, respecting the opportunity they have been given to play. Players are expected to attend all Select practices, games and tournaments scheduled as well as their House League games. During the overlap between Select and House League seasons, players will have up to 4 baseball events each week, including weekends. The NT Select commitment is a serious one. If you are signing your child up for this experience please be sure you are committed to the other players, parents and coaches that will be taking this step with you. Our aim is to build a team that practices and plays together consistently. Please do not attend the tryouts if you will be unable to meet the minimum attendance commitment.
All players must be available to attend the Toronto Baseball Association (TBA) city playoffs in mid-August, 2017 and if the team qualifies, the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) provincial championships in early September, 2017
Please note there is a significant financial commitment as well. Depending on sponsorship, player costs are expected to be $1,200-$1,350 in addition to league fees, primarily to pay for training, uniforms, equipment and tournaments.
