A
History
|
|
NTBA
in its present form was founded by Tim Arnaud, a resident of North
Toronto. In 1986 Tim was looking for an alternative baseball programme
for his sons, who were placed on a waiting list for a Leaside league.
He went to the North Toronto Arena in Eglinton Park and and asked
some players if they would be interested in playing baseball. Tim
says, as soon as their hands shot up, their parents ran for the
door because they knew the next question would be for parent volunteers
to run it!
Tim
called the Parks & Recreation Department of the City of Toronto
who were looking for ways to improve their summer programme at Eglinton
Park. Tim got permits to several diamonds. That summer there were
10 teams of 14 Mosquito players. The second year there were 250
players and by the third there were 450 players of varying ages.
Tim also initiated the Allstar programme which provided tournament
experience to our players across Ontario.
As
our organization grew th administrative work became heavier and
more complex and the assistance of Mr Ben Daube as registrar and
overall manager was critical over the next few years to solidify
the organization.
Soon
our numbers and the programmes we were putting on outgrew the ability
of one person to manage it all, and we incorporated as a not-for-profit-corporation
and divided the responsibilities amongst a Board of Directors and
Registrar.
Since
inception we have established Spring and Full House League divisions
and Allstars, with enrollment of about 1000 players. .
We
train and employ carded Baseball Ontario umpires for our games, most of whom
are drawn from our player pool, and of course the backbone of our
organization is our volunteer coaches, convenors and board members,
without whom we would not exist.
We
work towards improving every aspect of our programme from facilities
to coaching and look forward to providing many more years of the
youth baseball exerience in an environment that promotes good sportsmanship,
teamwork, intelligence and fun.
Affiliations
NTBA is affiliated with the Metropolitan Toronto Baseball Association
(MTBA) which is in turn governed by the Ontario Baseball Association
